You would think having a DJ in Massachusetts would be a simple concept, and for many it is. In order for DJs to create the perfect set for your reception, we need to get the basics down first. There are always the songs you want to hear (or don’t want to hear) or the specific songs played for specific scenarios, like the first dance or the cake cutting. We’ve broken down the list to simplify some of the basics you would need for your wedding day DJ checklist.
Create your Wedding Day Schedule
Make sure to write down the main events that are happening and what times you anticipate them to happen. Remember, they may not all happen according to plan on the actual day of your Massachusetts wedding.
- Wedding ceremony starts
- Wedding ceremony ends
- Guests begin arriving at the reception
- Bridal party arrives at the reception
- Reception events
- Reception Ends

Now include your detailed list of events that are happening at your wedding reception, such as:
- Bridal party entrance
- Bride and Groom entrance
- Guests eat
- Bride and groom’s first dance
- Father-daughter dance
- Mother-son dance
- Dance floor is open to everyone
- Cake cutting
- Toasts
- Bouquet/garter toss
If you are having a bridal party entrance, make sure to have a list of all of the names and how you would like them to be announced. It’s beneficial to include any particular pronunciations of names that may be more difficult than others. You can also include what role they play in the wedding or in your family’s life.
Now is the fun part. Include all particular songs you want for each special event you having at your reception. Each part of the reception is a special moment for you and your family, so we want to make sure that your DJ gets it just right.
What not to play at your wedding
Everyone has those particular songs they genuinely don’t want played at their wedding. There may also be specific genres that you don’t want to hear played either. Make a list of what types of music you do like and what types you don’t. Be as specific as possible. The more we know, the better the music will be that is suitable for your guests.
Let us know your DJ preferences
Your DJ will let you know what the normal attire and behaviors are at the wedding, but if you have special preferences, feel free to let us know. Some of these behaviors may include:

- DJ attire
- Dance props
- Singling out guests who aren’t dancing
- Being humorous or strictly professional
- Taking requests from guests at the wedding
- Talking and socializing with the guests as the announcer
- Taking requests from the bridal party
These are just a few of some ideas for behavioral types at your wedding. Perhaps you want someone who is just going to play music and not have any announcements or interaction with guests. Maybe you are wanting to have a more laid-back reception where the DJ doesn’t need to be dressed up formally. You let us know what you want, and we will provide for your Massachusetts wedding.
